Goldberg Scholars

An annual scholarship to empower a new generation of diverse leaders. The Dave Goldberg Scholars Program honors the remarkable life and legacy of Dave Goldberg by providing exceptional Peninsula Bridge rising college freshman with financial support and mentorship throughout college.

About the Scholarship

In partnership with the Sandberg Goldberg Bernthal Family Foundation, Peninsula Bridge selected 14 high school seniors to join the scholarship program as Goldberg Scholars. All 14 students will receive a unique combination of financial support and mentoring during their four-year college experience. Highlights include:

  • Critical financial support totaling approximately $15,000 a year per student to cover a range of non-tuition needs not traditionally met by college-based financial aid 

  • A Peninsula Bridge mentor to provide guidance and support on a regular basis throughout college 

  • Support from “Goldberg Connectors” – a network of professionals who will help scholars secure summer internships and job opportunities 

  • Invitation to attend Leadership Weekend, which allows students to build connections, learn from experts, and spend time with the community

Meet the 2023 Class of Goldberg Scholars

  • Adrian Del Rio

    Adrian is attending UC Merced and studying Electrical Engineering. Adrian attended Menlo School, where he was a key leader in the Latinos Unidos Club, a volunteer and role model in the Kickstart Program, and a member of the Whittaker Makers Lab. He developed a passion for STEM and, through Peninsula Bridge, he was selected for a prestigious apprenticeship last summer at Reliable Robotics working on an aerospace engineering project. He plans to return to Reliable again this coming summer in a similar capacity.

  • Andrea Estrada Arevalo

    Andrea is attending Dominican University and studying Nursing. Andrea attended Los Altos High, where she excelled academically and was very involved in Latino Student Union. With passions in both art and medicine, Andrea has taken advantage of opportunities at Stanford’s Perry Medical Program, Art Changes Us, the Council on International Educational Exchange in Italy, and an internship with EPA Arts Center. She also tutors for the Buena Vista Homework Club, and works for an accounting firm.

  • Ashley Rangel Arroyo

    Ashley is attending Yale University and studying Political Science. Ashley attended Crystal Springs Uplands School, where she was a dedicated and thoughtful student. At Crystal, she was a Crystal First Mentor, LatinX club co-president, Future Latino Law Leader participant, and was nominated to participate in the Student Diversity Leadership Conference. She was selected as a Peninsula Bridge TA as well as a Bridge Student Ambassador. And, last summer, Ashley worked at Ropes and Gray law firm as an intern.

  • Dorian Deleon

    Dorian is attending UC Santa Cruz and studying Philosophy. Dorian attended Kehillah High School, where he played varsity soccer and was a member of the Biology Club. orian was selected as a Peninsula Bridge Ambassador, a Bridge Summer Program TA, and a French tutor. Dorian aspires to go into medicine, potentially in pediatrics or pharmacology and, last summer, Dorian worked as a pharmacology assistant, getting the real experience of the inner workings of the pharmacy.

  • Edwin Perez Alvarez

    Edwin is attending UC Riverside. Edwin attended Menlo School, where he was a member of the Varsity Soccer Team all 4 years, was a Senior Captain, and is a member of the Latinos Unidos club. Edwin volunteered at Peninsula Bridge’s Middle School Summer Academy as a Teaching Assistant, and participated in both the Vida Verde sustainability program and League of Creative Minds.

  • Jennifer Gonzalez Loza

    Jenny is attending UC Davis and studying Political Science. Jenny attended Gunderson High School, where she was the student leader on her school’s Mock Trial team. She dreams of being a corporate lawyer, and also helping to solve the CPS court system. Last summer, interned at Ropes & Gray law firm. She also serves as a Bridge Ambassador to help represent the Peninsula Bridge community, and has helped to run her godparents’ for accounting business.

  • Josue Benitez

    Josue is attending Lehigh University and studying Computer Science. Josue attended Mountain View High School and has a promising career ahead of him in computer science. He began teaching himself programming early on in high school; by senior year, he was at the top of his AP Computer Science class. Last summer, Josue was selected for an apprenticeship at Reliable Robotics where he worked on programming for their web design. Through Peninsula Bridge, Josue has dedicated himself to sustainability efforts through community service programs like Grassroots Ecology and Vida Verde.

  • Kaley Mendoza-Pineda

    Kaley is attending Connecticut College and studying Architecture and Media Design. Kaley attended Castilleja School, where she was engaged in numerous clubs and activities. She was a co-leader of LatinX Affinity Group, a school ambassador, on the tennis team, and produces social media and graphics for the Robotics Team. With Bridge, Kaley took advantage of the Facebook Coding Academy, was selected as an ambassador to represent Peninsula Bridge, and served as a TA for the Summer Academy. She volunteered for the Rosener House, while also holding down a part-time job.

  • Kevin Valencia

    Kevin is attending UC Merced and studying Electrical Engineering. Kevin attended Los Altos High, where he developed a passion for STEM. He took advantage of numerous STEM opportunities through Bridge, including Amazon Bootcamp, Hack the Hood, Capital Group Program, and PREFACE through RPI. At school, he was a member of the Aviation Club's build team, as well as a member of the Key Club and Red Cross Club. He is also an avid soccer player.

  • Natalie Armeida

    Natalie is attending Sonoma State and studying Business. Natalie attended Mountain View High, and has dreams of excelling in the business world. She is highly motivated and engaged as a leader both inside and outside the classroom. She served as a school Ambassador, enjoying classes like Work Experience & Education Program and Avid Tutoring, and earning academic awards in history. She has volunteered as both a TA for Peninsula Bridge's summer program and a tutor for Bridge middle school students.

  • Paola Monge

    Paola is attending the University of Redlands and studying Business & Accounting. Paola attended Aragon High School, and dreams of a business career, including running her own accounting firm. At Aragon, Paola was actively engaged in many clubs, including the Business Club, and she served as a leader in Link Crew where she welcomes and mentors the incoming class each year. Paola tutored students at Kumon in math, and is a skilled cellist, violinist, and calligrapher. Last summer, Paola interned at AvidBank.

  • Sofia Munoz Pacheco

    Sofia is attending Barnard College and studying Neuroscience & Biology. Sofia attended Menlo School where she excelled academically and was a leader in the DEI space. She was the co-president of Unity Club, past co-president of Latinos Unidos, and was selected to attend the National Student Diversity Leadership Conference in EDI. Sofia played violin in the school orchestra, managed the swim team, and is doing year-long independent research on music therapy for Alzheimer's patients.

  • Vanessa Munoz-Hernandez

    Vanessa is attending Lehigh University and studying Mechanical Engineering. Vanessa attended Menlo School where she has developed passions for art and engineering. She was actively engaged in clubs and affinity groups at school, a leader in the Whittaker Lab, a tutor in math for the Menlo Middle School program, a Menlo School Ambassador, and a member of Latinos Unidos, Makers Club and the Cre-8 Art Club. Last summer, Vanessa was selected for an internship with DPR Construction in the civil and mechanical engineering department.

  • Vianca Lopez Molina

    Vianca is attending USC and studying Biology. Vianca attended Menlo-Atherton High School, where she has garnered numerous academic and volunteer awards, and been engaged as an AVID, LUMA and Freshmen Transition leader, as well as a Service Learning Center Student Ambassador. She has been selected for the Polygence program at Stanford, the Stanford Sequoia Action Research Internship, Cooline Kids Program Event & Program Operator position, and the Bytes Workshop.
