Academic Year Program
Upon acceptance to the Peninsula Bridge program, we schedule an interview with each family to determine how we can best support the academic and personal success of their middle school child. Based on information from this interview and our robust network of community contacts, Peninsula Bridge works as a connector between our students and high quality after school enrichment programs to provide a force for positive development in the areas that are most reduced in the schools they attend: the arts, athletics, and tutoring resources. Instead of reinventing the wheel, Peninsula Bridge partners with local community-based organizations to create a year round support network for our students.
If our students’ needs are not met with existing community resources, then we work with volunteers or organizations to provide enrichment programs that directly meet the needs of our students. One example of this direct service component is a photography seminar offered to our fifth grade girls in the fall of 2008. This group of girls took photography during their summer program at Castilleja school and were interested in developing their skills during the regular school year. A professional photographer involved with Peninsula Bridge created an eight week workshop that took the girls to various Bay Area landmarks to teach advanced photography skills.
