Job Openings--Program Sites
Peninsula Bridge hires teachers with at least 3 to 5 years of classroom experience in either independent or public schools. We call them master teachers, and we
expect them to be enthusiastic, committed, professional educators with a
strong background in either English or math. Background with middle
school students from grades 6-8 and familiarity with the content
standards in either subject area is a plus. We are interested in
innovative instructors who would like to teach in a progressive
interdisciplinary program. If you're interested in a teaching position,
please send your resume in an email to the Executive Director of
Peninsula Bridge.
In addition, each program site hires 8-12 student mentors/teaching assistants each summer (TA's) to work with the master teachers and provide extra individualized help for our students. TA's are typically high school students who attend one of the independent schools that hosts our program or are alumni of Peninsula Bridge. They are an important link between site directors, master teachers and the middle school students we support. In addition, the experience we offer TA's enhances their teaching and leadership skills, and helps them develop essential cultural competencies (i.e., ethnic, class, gender, environment).
Ideal attributes for TA's/student mentors include: - Interest in teaching and working with younger students - Desire to develop leadership and mentoring skills - Responsible and reliable - Hardworking and conscientious - Team-focused - Open-minded - Sense of humor
High school or college students interested in being a TA must be
willing to make a five week commitment during the summer plus
orientation (2 or 3 days before the summer program begins. Interested
students need to apply directly to the Site Director of the school site they would like to assist.
Contact the individual site directors if you are interested in a position.
