At Crystal Springs' Peninsula Bridge, our week started out with the TAs yelling "GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!".
It was the start of Spirit Week, and the theme was World Cup. Each advisory group of six students chose a country to represent in each of the Spirit Week competitions. Monday's competition was World Cup football. After a series of elimination games, the 7th grade advisory of "England" emerged victorious over the 8th grade's "Mexico", which created lots of excitement.
Tuesday's event was the Balloon Stomp and Frozen T-shirt contest. In the balloon stomp, representatives from each grade had balloons tied to their ankles. Objective? Pop others' balloons by stomping on them. Last person with balloons on their ankles wins. In the frozen t-shirt contest, each grade is given a t-shirt that has been soaked in water and left in a freezer overnight. Whichever team thaws the t-shirt and is able to put it on first wins.
On Wednesday, we had a whipped-cream-pie-eating contest, in which students had to use only their mouths to find gummy worms in tin pie pans filled with whipped cream. The 8th graders won, but not without creating whipped cream beards, much to everyone's amusement. After that, the students had a hilarious and clumsy tricycle race. Everyone was laughing. Did we mention the TAs were forced to do this as well?
On the final day of Spirit Week, the students competed in their last game in which they climbed ladders to drop chocolate-covered marshmallows into each other's mouths. The grade who successfully landed the most marshmallows into their teammate's mouth won.
Students were asked to bring in a dish from their respective cultures of origin to share with the rest of Peninsula Bridge, a delicious way to celebrate everyone's diverse origins. We feasted upon dishes from Ghana to Mexico, from Honduras to the Netherlands, and even from the Philippines and Turkey. I can safely say that we all ate a little too much, but every bite was worth it.
All in all, Spirit Week was a great success, a lot of fun, and a wonderful way to create a tightly knit Crystal Springs Peninsula Bridge family.
