Castilleja- Our Wild and Wacky Weeks at Bridge by Griselda

casti1.jpgWe're not going to try and tell you the first three weeks of Bridge have been uneventful. Between fractions, decimals, poetry and the Tech Museum, teachers and students alike have their hands full. Each student looks forward to Thursday, the designated field trip day with the great excitement only children can muster, and each TA looks forward to Thursday with the subtle thrill of fear; one TA admitted that she had never said '"Don''t touch!'" so many times in her life than in the Cantor Arts Museum, where we had our last field trip, in an attempt to alleviate the burning curiosity which inspired all our students to lay hands on Rodin's famous sculptures, to our chagrin.

At the Tech Museum, however, the TA's were much more relaxed, for we had no need to conquer our student's' tactile desires. The students agreed that the Pharoah's Secret IMAX was amazing, though they simultaneously agreed that the close-ups of the different mummies' desecrated faces were somewhat repulsive.

Students are also having a great time studying poetry in English; I''ve had six different students come up to me and compose their own panegyrics (though I don't know if we've come so far that our students actually know what a panegyric is) for of Ms Mary or Ms Lara, the language arts and poetry teachers. Our students also love Because of Winn Dixie, the book we're focusing on this year.

In math this week, students are studying fractions and decimals. They are also enjoying disecting flowers and creating the anatomy of the same flowers out of construction paper in science. Students also learn how to handle frogs, crabs and sea slugs ("Ewwww!!") and Ms Christina's Russian dwarf hamster ("Awwww...").

Week three is drawing to a close; we're excited for week four!
